KEVIN DANIEL ‘North South’ Texas Tour w/ JOHNNY CHOPS (10/30 – 11/2)
October 16, 2019 by 1888media

With a barn-burning debut album locked and loaded, Brooklyn based Americana artist Kevin Daniel has announced a string of Texas shows with Austin-based guitar-slinger Johnny “Chops” Richardson (of Randy Rogers Band). The 4-date barrage sees the two roots rockers tackle Austin (Saxon Pub), Dallas (The Blue Light) and Fort Worth (Twilite Lounge) with a no-holds-barred throwdown on tap for Halloween at Freiheit Country Store in New Braunfels.
The twang-fueled trek will support his critically acclaimed LP, Things I Don’t See, released in September via Fort Worth based Smith Music Group. Co-produced by Ben Rice (Norah Jones, The Candles, Aoife O’Donovan) and Kenny Siegel (Langhorne Slim, Joseph Arthur, Chris Whitley), new world anthems, “City That Saves,” “Name of Fame,” “Jupiter” and “Time To Rise (ft. Shannon Söderlund)” showcase Daniel’s fluid ability as a songwriter to seamlessly incorporate bits of rock, soul, country, blues, roots and Appalachia into his thoughtful examination of pain and awakenings, visceral and spiritual.
With nods to Langhorne, Ryan Bingham and Jason Isbell, Daniel’s rugged, open-hearted vocals power the pickup down the alt country highway, sizzling with slide and B3 in between the seams. From the “sublime lamentation of country-tinged Americana” [No Depression] that propels “Pour Me A Drink” to the gospel-tinged “Used to Be” (an emotional tribute to his departed parents), to the rollicking “Xanax, Cocaine & Whiskey,” his incendiary cast of characters included Will Bryant (organ/keys), Lee Falco (drums), and Brandon Morrison (bass) of Hudson Valley’s, The Restless Age, guitarist Jon LaDeau from The National Reserve, and Anthony Krizan, formerly of Spin Doctors. Acclaim has piled high, with the likes of Relix Magazine, Under The Radar, Blue Ridge Outdoors, Ditty TV, Radio Woodstock, Blurt Magazine, Americana Highways, and The Alternate Root staking flags of support.
Live is when his manifestations come alive. Daniel, along with his blistering band, The Bottom Line, offer a nightly revival that echoes the everyman vibe of Tom Petty while conjuring the gut-busting grooves of Drive-by Truckers. Before a recent stop at famed North Carolinian outpost The Evening Muse, Daniel and his motley crew joined the likes of Gary Clark Jr, Over The Rhine and The Raconteurs as one of “7 Buzzworthy concerts” to see by Charlotte Observer. Fans observed the “soul searing and fun loving second coming of Chris Stapleton” [JW Vibe].
After the Texas trek, which will see Daniel join forces with Richardson on several songs, the tour rolls through Chicago, Cleveland and Nashville with a hometown reckoning at Bowery Electric, a January jaunt with American Idol singer Seth Power and the International Folk Alliance consortium on the horizon. Envisioning a mission to deliver his country rock repository to every nook and cranny across this great land, Daniel sees the need for a sense of community, with seeds sown from sea to shining sea.
