Venerated music outlet The Bluegrass Situation has premiered, “Time to Rise,” the 3rd single from Things I Don’t See, the debut album from rising Americana artist, Kevin Daniel.
Daniel recalls its genesis, “I wrote the first draft of ‘Time to Rise’ at my hotel in Nashville during AmericanaFest in 2018. My friend and I were riffing and he gave me a word to rhyme. That word was ‘apologize’ and then a song came out, which I worked on over the next few months. It features Shannon Söderlund from Punch The Sun on vocals, singing into a super vintage RCA mic from the 50s. We met at a random show in NYC and she’s so good, I just had to have her sing.”
Time is the follow-up to “Used to Be,” which was produced by Kenny Siegel, known for his work with Langhorne Slim, Joseph Arthur and Chris Whitley. With rugged, open-hearted vocals, the song’s twang-fueled, gospel-like revival recalls vintage Drive By Truckers as it rumbles down the alt country highway.
Flanked by an incendiary cast, including Muddy Shews (bass), John Hummel (drums), Anthony Krizan (Tenor guitar, Slide guitar), Judd Nielsen (organ), Erica Mancini (accordion), Irene Blackman (vocals), and Roman Urbanski (vocals), along with Will Bryant (organ/keys), Lee Falco (drums), and Brandon Morrison (bass) of Hudson Valley’s, The Restless Age, and guitarist Jon LaDeau, from The National Reserve, Things I Don’t See is due for release on September 20.
