With three decades of storied history, acclaimed singer/songwriter Kevin Lee continues to inspire generations as one of the best big-hook, power pop tunesmiths in the business.
Hot on the heels of the release of “Sticks & Stones, his third album with his band The Kings, Lee spoke with The Rock Father about his proclivity for “chunky guitars with memorable melodies,” touring with the likes of Pearl Jam, Cheap Trick, Lou Gramm and Matthew Sweet and the definitive “Chicago sound.”
He, along with his long-time lead guitarist Michael Kurtz, then stopped by WGN Radio at Tribune Tower in Chicago to play a few songs live on the Steve Cochran Show.
Kicking things off with a powerful rendition of Sticks & Stones, Lee then shared stories of life on the road with REO Speedwagon during a summer arena tour before bringing things to a crescendo with a spirited rendition of David Bowie’s iconic “Suffragette City.”
Their appearance was, in part, to promote his participation in Tough Love, an all-star Benefit at Joe’s Live in Rosemont to raise awareness/funds for Crohn’s Disease for Lurie’s Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
On the horizon for Kevin Lee & The Kings is the release of a music video for “All We Have Is Now,” and an appearance at the Annual Railroad Daze at Franklin Park Fest in Franklin Park, IL.
The 3-day event runs June 7-9, with Kevin Lee & The Kings playing on Saturday, June 9 at 1:15pm. Train viewing will take place that same day from 10 AM to 3 PM. Attendees will be able to walk on and view the interiors of the trains.
