NYC’s Banjo Nickaru & Western Scooches, likely the only band infusing Gullah-Geechee rhythms with folk, roots, country, 1920s and New Orleans influences, recently visited Relix Magazine in midtown Manhattan to film a 3-song live session which included a spooky rendition of the Misfits’ classic “Halloween.”

Replete with fast-fretted power chords and wailing sinister howls, singer Betina Hershey, vocalist Miles Griffith, Banjo Nickaru (aka Nick Russo) and special guest trombonist Josh Holcomb (from Lucky Chops) dramatically summon the eerie energy of the original.

Future session clips recorded at Relix include the unreleased song “Anywhere They Go” and “Jock-A-Mo (Iko Iko)” which appears on the band’s debut album Very Next Thing.
